‘Young People’s Voice’ (YPV) is a campaigning and volunteering project for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans (LGBT) youth aged 16-25. Together, we represent LGBT youth by promoting awareness of their issues and rights in the wider community. We engage with LGBT youth on a number of platforms so they can get their voices and experiences heard.

One of the main ways we campaign is through the use of social and digital media. For instance we use Facebook and Twitter to promote awareness of our campaigns and write blogs for the Allsorts website about the issues we feel passionate about.

Would you like to get involved in YPV? There are five main volunteering opportunities we have on offer:

  • LGBT Youth Campaigns Co-ordinators: Run annual campaigns around a specific issue (e.g. End LGBT Bullying in schools) and linking in with national and international campaigns (e.g. Stonewall’s It Gets Better) as well as short campaigns on themed days and events (e.g. International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia Transphobia, World Aids Day, Anti Bullying Week, etc). Two ideas on how we might campaign is by making videos for You Tube and the Allsorts website and create Facebook pages for campaigns.
  • LGBT Youth Events and Activities Co-ordinators: Organise and put on events throughout the year (e.g. Volunteers Awards Ceremonies, walking group for Brighton Pride, Theatre Project, Proms,  etc). Working closely with the LGBT Youth Campaigns Volunteers to organise activities at the Allsorts drop-in/Peer Support Groups and awareness events on short campaigns and themed days/weeks.
  • LGBT Youth Peer Educators: Help design and deliver anti-homophobia, biphobia, transphobia workshops to young people in schools, colleges and other youth settings.  Also help to develop resources for teaching staff and youth workers to use in class and youth settings.
  • LGBT Youth Outreach Co-ordinators: Help to deliver outreach in educational, youth and commercial settings by running stalls at Fresher Fairs and other events. Also help in the design and review publicity materials for Allsorts services and projects.
  • LGBT Youth Steering Group Representatives: Help to in the planning and review of all YPV’s projects and activities. Meetings are held quarterly.
