Schools Out – campaigning and lobbying group for LGBT education workers

schoolsoutlogo

Schools Out was set up in 1974 as the London Gay Teachers Group. We still offer support for individual LGBT education workers, but most of our work is now campaigning and lobbying, and promoting our major project: LGBT History Month. We hold an annual conference in February, to bring together educators, researchers, policymakers, activists and young people.

LGBT History Month was set up, after the repeal of Section 28, to reclaim the position of LGBT identities, culture and history in the curriculum. Our website provides ideas and resources to help schools (and the wider community) to celebrate the month. The theme for 2010 is education. 2011 and 2010 the theme is Sport.

Schools Out conference (including the launch of LGBT History Month) is Sat 5 Feb at the Drill Hall theatre in London.

LGBT History Month is throughout February. The theme is education, so we want lots of schools to put on events. There are lots of suggestions and resources online, as well as a calendar for the month. Visit www.lgbthistorymonth.org.uk
