Why phone Switchboard?

The Switchboard Helpline is for information, listening and support.

Whether it’s for going out, coming out or checking something out, speaking to an operator who is LGBT makes an important difference to our callers. The scope of information that Switchboard operators have to offer can range from gay hotels or saunas in the area, the date of Brighton Pride, to coming to terms with sexuality or HIV status.

Often people want inside information about the lesbian and gay scene, or don’t know where else to go to find what they are looking for; finding lesbian/gay friendly accommodation, for example. Or it might be that you just want to talk to someone and don’t know where to turn, that’s what we are here for.

If you have been the victim of an LGBT hate crime our helpline can provide you with immediate support both emotionally and with the practicalities of dealing with what’s happened to you.

The helpline answers around 20 calls a night, providing sympathetic and helpful listeners.

All calls to Switchboard remain confidential.
